The Choisya ternata is a rounded, medium-sized bushy evergreen shrub, with dark, glossy green leaves divided into three broad leaflets. Members of the genus are commonly known as Mexican orange or mock orange due to the similarity of their flowers with those of the closely related orange, both in shape and scent. Flowers are pure white, scented, often appearing fitfully into winter.
