De kroon is grillig rond en de twijgen groeien als een kurkentrekker waar hij zijn naam aan te danken heeft. Doe bloeiwijze van de Corylus avellana 'Contorta' is niet duidelijk zichtbaar. De katjes zijn 3-5 cm lang en geel van kleu
