Philadelphus 'Starbright' is an exciting new selection developed at the Memorial University Botanical Garden in Newfoundland. The new growth is bronzy purple and is followed by exceptionally large star-like white flowers accented by a purplish black calyx. It is hardier than most of the Mock Orange varieties and is extremely fragrant. It also does not get the leaf burn in hot summers that is typical of most Mock Oranges. It is an excellent shrub to plant close to the house where its delightful fragrance can be appreciated.
