Alba is a deciduous, woody-stemmed, twining vine in the pea family. Trunks can get quite large for a vine, reaching up to 30 cm in diameter. Flowers are in 15-30 cm long racemes and open simultaneously within the raceme. White, very fragrant flowers will be showy in May with a backdrop of green, compound leaves. Flowers are followed by velvety pods and foliage will turn soft yellow in the fall. Pruning should be done a couple months after bloom to keep the plant in bounds and to promote better flowering the next season.
