Acer freemanii 'Autumn Blaze®'
Informazioni su questa pianta
Acer
Maples (Acer) form a large genus of trees and shrubs, nearly all from the northern hemisphere and many from China. They range from small multi-stemmed trees to large shade trees. Their opposite, usually lobed leaves, colourful young growth, winged fruits and above all their fiery autumn colours make them garden classics.
Acer freemanii
The Freeman maple is a hybrid between the red maple and the silver maple, first raised in North America. It combines the sturdy structure and fiery autumn colour of the red maple with the fast growth and adaptability of the silver maple. It forms a large, upright tree with deeply lobed leaves that turn orange-red in October.
Esposizione e terreno
Sun or partial shade, in moist, well-drained, neutral to slightly acid soil. It tolerates wet soil and wind, and established trees cope with some drought. In heavy, chalky soil the leaves may turn yellow from chlorosis. Very hardy.
Potatura e cura
Grows fast when conditions suit it. Prune young trees between December and February to form a sound crown and raise it gradually; avoid pruning in spring. The root system is dense and fairly shallow, which makes underplanting difficult.
Utilizzo in giardino
A shade tree for large gardens and parks, as a specimen on a lawn or in a group with other autumn-colouring trees. Thanks to its wind tolerance it also suits avenues, street planting and the edges of larger plots, and it tolerates rain gardens.
