Achillea RAINBOW® 'Crème de la Crème'
Informazioni su questa pianta
Achillea
Yarrows (Achillea) are hardy perennials from the temperate zones of Europe, Asia and North America, with finely divided, often aromatic foliage. From June to September they carry flat flower heads in white, yellow, pink, red or soft pastel shades. They are valued as tough, long-flowering plants that bring a natural look to the garden.
Esposizione e terreno
Yarrows want full sun and a light, well-drained soil; they thrive on dry, poor and even slightly chalky ground. Stagnant moisture is their main enemy, so improve heavy soil with grit. Rich soil makes the stems soft and floppy. They are very hardy and tolerate heat and drought.
Potatura e cura
Plant in April-May or in September, 30 to 40 cm apart; no fertiliser is needed. Remove faded flower heads to encourage new blooms, and cut all stems back short in autumn. Pinching the stems in spring gives sturdier plants. Divide clumps every two to three years in spring to keep them vigorous.
Utilizzo in giardino
Yarrows suit sunny borders, gravel and prairie-style plantings, dry slopes and containers. They attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators and are excellent as fresh or dried cut flowers. Some forms spread readily by rhizomes and self-seeding, which is welcome in naturalistic plantings.
