Cultivar: 'Garann'

Informazioni su questa pianta

Acer

Maples (Acer) form a large genus of trees and shrubs, nearly all from the northern hemisphere and many from China. They range from small multi-stemmed trees to large shade trees. Their opposite, usually lobed leaves, colourful young growth, winged fruits and above all their fiery autumn colours make them garden classics.

Acer tataricum

The Tatar maple (Acer tataricum) is a small tree or large multi-stemmed shrub from south-eastern Europe and western and central Asia; the Amur maple is a subspecies from north-east Asia. Its leaves are unlobed or slightly three-lobed and turn yellow, orange and red in autumn. Fragrant creamy-white flowers in spring are followed by winged fruits that turn bright red in summer.

Esposizione e terreno

It grows in sun or partial shade and is undemanding about soil, from slightly acid to chalky, and even clay as long as it does not stay waterlogged. Very hardy and wind-resistant, it withstands short dry spells once established and does best where summers are not too hot.

Potatura e cura

Easy to maintain. Prune in winter, from December to February, to remove dead or crossing branches, or to train a multi-stemmed shrub gradually into a small tree. It can self-seed, so pull out unwanted seedlings.

Utilizzo in giardino

A tree of modest size that suits smaller gardens: as a specimen in a lawn, in mixed or wildlife hedges and in groups beneath larger trees. The red fruits in summer and the autumn colour give a long season of interest. It can also be grown as bonsai.
