Informazioni su questa pianta
Alchemilla
Lady's mantles (Alchemilla) are hardy perennials of the rose family from Europe and Asia, growing wild in mountain meadows and along woodland edges. They form low clumps of rounded, pleated, softly hairy leaves on which raindrops gather like pearls, topped in early summer by airy clouds of tiny yellow-green flowers.
Alchemilla mollis
Alchemilla mollis is the tallest and best-known lady's mantle, native to the mountains of eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Asia Minor as far as northern Iran. It forms broad, rounded clumps of large, velvety, lime-green leaves with toothed edges, above which loose sprays of chartreuse flowers appear in June and July.
Esposizione e terreno
Grows in sun or partial shade, in moist, fertile soil that drains well; heavy clay is fine as long as it does not dry out completely. In mild areas the leaves may persist through winter; elsewhere the plant dies back and reappears in spring. Extremely hardy.
Potatura e cura
Cut off spent flower stems before they set seed, as the plant self-seeds freely and can spread aggressively where it is happy. In August the foliage can be sheared back to ground level; fresh leaves follow within a couple of weeks. Plant ideally in March or October and divide large clumps when needed.
Utilizzo in giardino
A classic ground cover for the front of borders, beneath roses and along new paths, and also in paving cracks and on wall tops. It pairs well with roses, lilies and spring bulbs, and the flowers last well when cut and dried.
