Acer conspicuum 'Phoenix'

Om denne planten

Acer

Maples (Acer) form a large genus of trees and shrubs, nearly all from the northern hemisphere and many from China. They range from small multi-stemmed trees to large shade trees. Their opposite, usually lobed leaves, colourful young growth, winged fruits and above all their fiery autumn colours make them garden classics.

Acer conspicuum

This snakebark maple is a garden hybrid between Acer davidii and Acer pensylvanicum. It stays small, usually around 4 m, with an upright habit. The young shoots are often bright red, the older branches and trunk striped with white. The three-lobed leaves colour yellow to orange in autumn.

Plassering og jord

Sun without scorching heat or partial shade, in lime-free soil that stays moist, especially in summer. A sheltered spot protects the leaves and bark. Hardy in Belgian gardens.

Beskjæring og stell

Water regularly in the first years and during dry periods, and mulch the root zone. Pruning is limited to removing dead or misplaced branches between December and February or in June. Pruning young shoots lightly keeps the colourful bark in view.

Bruk i hagen

Thanks to its modest size, ideal for small gardens and courtyards, as a specimen near the house or in a border with calm perennials such as hostas and ferns. The striped bark makes it a striking feature in winter.
