Allium 'Globemaster'
O tej roślinie
Allium
Ornamental onions (Allium) form a large genus of bulbous and rhizomatous perennials, native mainly to the dry and mountainous regions of Europe and Asia. Their leafless stems carry round or loose umbels of small star-shaped flowers in white, pink, purple, blue or yellow from spring into summer, and the dried seed heads stay decorative for months.
Stanowisko i gleba
Ornamental onions need a warm, sunny spot and a light, very well-drained soil, which may be poor or stony; wet ground in winter is their main enemy. Shelter tall species from strong wind. The bulbs are hardy and can stay in the ground in our climate, and a dry summer suits their resting period.
Przycinanie i pielęgnacja
Plant the bulbs in autumn, preferably before the end of October, in groups and covered with soil about twice their own height. Water during growth only when the soil is very dry and stop after flowering. Cut the leaves only once they have withered. Removing spent heads prevents self-seeding; otherwise leave them as decoration. Clumps can be divided.
Zastosowanie w ogrodzie
Tall ornamental onions give structure in the middle or back of sunny borders, among perennials, grasses and roses; lower species suit edges, rock and gravel gardens and pots. The flowers attract bees and butterflies and are excellent in fresh and dried arrangements.
