Acer japonicum 'Crimson Princess'
O této rostlině
Acer
Maples (Acer) form a large genus of trees and shrubs, nearly all from the northern hemisphere and many from China. They range from small multi-stemmed trees to large shade trees. Their opposite, usually lobed leaves, colourful young growth, winged fruits and above all their fiery autumn colours make them garden classics.
Acer japonicum
The full moon maple comes from the mountains of Japan and Korea. Its rounded leaves are deeply cut into seven to eleven lobes and turn yellow, orange and red in autumn. Small purple-red flowers hang from the branches in April, before the leaves open. It grows slowly into a broad shrub or small tree.
Stanoviště a půda
Thrives in light, dappled shade in fertile, moist, well-drained soil that is acidic to neutral. Shelter it from cold, drying winds and from hot sun, which scorch the leaves. Hardy, but the early foliage can be damaged by late spring frosts.
Řez a péče
No regular pruning is needed. If a branch has to be removed, do so in winter (December to February) and keep wounds small, as maples are prone to verticillium wilt. Mulch and water well during the first two summers, and protect the bark of young plants from rabbits.
Použití v zahradě
A refined specimen for small gardens, courtyards or large containers, and lovely in a lightly shaded border alongside hydrangeas, rhododendrons, hostas and ferns. Its autumn colour makes it a focal point late in the season.
