Acer pseudosieboldianum Arctic Jade
O této rostlině
Acer
Maples (Acer) form a large genus of trees and shrubs, nearly all from the northern hemisphere and many from China. They range from small multi-stemmed trees to large shade trees. Their opposite, usually lobed leaves, colourful young growth, winged fruits and above all their fiery autumn colours make them garden classics.
Acer pseudosieboldianum
The Korean maple (Acer pseudosieboldianum) is a small deciduous tree or large shrub from the forests of Korea, Manchuria and north-east China. Its rounded leaves are divided into many finely toothed lobes and turn yellow, orange and red in autumn. Small purple flowers open in spring and are followed by winged fruits that colour red in summer.
Stanoviště a půda
It grows best in moist, humus-rich and well-drained soil that is slightly acid to neutral, in sun or partial shade. Avoid hot, dry spots and give it shelter from strong winds. It is fully hardy, copes with severe frost better than most Japanese maples and tolerates sun more easily.
Řez a péče
Keep the soil moist during the first summers and mulch the root zone. Pruning is rarely needed: if necessary, remove only dead or crossing branches in winter, from December to February, as large wounds weaken the tree and let in disease. On heavy, wet soil watch for verticillium wilt.
Použití v zahradě
A fine specimen for a lawn or a sheltered border, where its autumn colour stands out against a hedge or taller trees. Its modest size suits small and medium gardens, and it combines well with witch hazel, azaleas and other shrubs with good autumn colour. In colder areas it is a hardier alternative to Japanese maples.
