Compactum, a type of Guelder-rose is a medium sized deciduous shrub with a dense, rounded habit. From late May to early June small white flowers bloom on this shrub. Its leaves are coarsely toothed, three to five lobed and maple-like. The leaves are dark green in spring and summer and orange yellow to purple-red in autumn. From July red fleshy berries appear that remain long into the winter. The plant tolerates ocean breezes and air pollution. The plant is very suitable as hedge, or planted as a group, so it will form a sort of flower screen.
