Acacia pravissima 'Lemon Twist'
O tej roślinie
Acacia
Mimosas (Acacia) form a large genus of trees and shrubs, the ornamental ones mostly from Australia. They are loved for their fragrant, fluffy yellow pompom flowers, which open in late winter or early spring when little else is in bloom. Their foliage is either finely divided or reduced to flattened leaf-like stalks.
Acacia pravissima
This mimosa from south-eastern Australia forms a small evergreen tree with a graceful, slightly weeping habit and angular, arching branches. Instead of true leaves it carries small, triangular, grey-green phyllodes with a sharp tip. In March and April red-tinged buds open into fragrant lemon-yellow pompoms.
Stanowisko i gleba
Plant in sun or light shade in any well-drained soil; it is indifferent to pH and tolerates summer drought well. It is one of the hardiest mimosas, enduring short frosts down to about -10 °C in a sheltered spot with good drainage. In colder parts of Belgium, grow it in a pot and bring it in for winter.
Przycinanie i pielęgnacja
Plant in April or May so the roots settle before winter. After flowering, in April-May, shorten the flowered shoots lightly to keep the crown dense; avoid hard cutting into old wood. Growth is fast and the plant lives around 10 to 15 years. Protect the crown with fleece during severe frost.
Zastosowanie w ogrodzie
A fine specimen for a sheltered spot, a mixed shrub border or an informal screen in mild areas. It also does well in a large container on a terrace, where its early, scented flowers can be enjoyed close by. It pairs nicely with other early-flowering or exotic-looking shrubs.
