Agapanthus 'Golden Drop' (PBR)

Agapanthus 'Golden Drop' is one of the few very compact varieties. It was introduced at the Chelsea flower show 2012 and is unique for its yellow edged leaves. The plant is hardy and can also be used as a perennial for bed edging. With its light blue flower heads the plant grows up to a height of 30 cm.

O tej roślinie

Agapanthus

African lilies (Agapanthus) are clump-forming perennials from southern Africa that grow from fleshy rhizomes. Above a tuft of strap-shaped leaves, sturdy leafless stems carry rounded umbels of trumpet-shaped flowers in shades of blue, violet or white in summer. Gardeners value them for their graphic, long-lasting display and easy culture.

Stanowisko i gleba

African lilies need a warm spot in full sun to flower well; light shade is tolerated but reduces flowering. They prefer a light, fertile and above all well-drained soil, as standing water in winter is fatal. Deciduous types withstand moderate frost, evergreen types much less, so in colder areas the latter are best grown in pots.

Przycinanie i pielęgnacja

No pruning is needed: simply cut faded flower stems back to the base. Water regularly in summer, letting the soil dry out between waterings, and feed potted plants once a year with a fertiliser rich in potash and phosphorus. Plants dislike being moved and flower best once well established; in winter protect the base with a thick mulch or bring pots to a frost-free place.

Zastosowanie w ogrodzie

Agapanthus suit borders, beds, gravel and contemporary gardens, and are popular in coastal gardens because they cope with wind and sea spray. Compact types are ideal for pots and patio containers. The long-stemmed flower heads also make good cut flowers.
